    I like the name...

A retired F-117 Nighthawk fighter/bomber with the appropriate name of "Unexpected Guest" has arrived at the Ronald Reagan Library in California...It will be reassembled and displayed on a pole near another iconic aircraft from the Reagan era, an F-14 Tomcat......Ben

I saw one of comedian Steve Martin’s earliest videos which was a travel film for Canada. One shot showed a jet on a pole outside a military base to which Martin’s comment was, “Greatest landing in history.”

A friend of mine was asked to dedicate the same F-105G he once flew as part of a Wild weasel squadron at the Flying Heritage Collection at Paine Field, Wash...He said it was one of his proudest moments......Ben

My wife’s first husband was killed in a crash in Buzzards Bay of a 105 in the Vietnam War years. She said the airplane earned the moniker, “Widow Maker,” among the service people.

I thought I remembered you saying he was killed in an F-104, Joe...Correct me if I'm wrong......Ben

Definitely not a 104...I think it was a 105. He was a navigator. I don’t think 104’s even had a second seat. Am I correct? The 104’s had widow maker written all over them as well.

I asked my wife to clear it up, and I was wrong on all accounts. Her husband died in an F-101 Voodoo.

The McDonnell F-101 was a remarkably long-lived warbird considering the competition it had for government contracts...First flown in 1954, it was useful to the end of the Vietnam War, and served in interceptor roles in the ANG into the 80's...It was particularly useful in its reconnaissance and electronic warfare roles......Ben

Further research shows a collision of two F-101's of the 60th Fighter/Interceptor Squadron out of Otis AFB near Buzzards Bay on 11/14/1967, but both crews survived...ASN's records are not always complete, but the accident listed as merely "Atlantic Ocean" on 11/26/1959 might have been the one you referenced, Joe...At any rate, I'm sure it's not worth bringing up any more bad memories for your wife......Ben
