The truck had no license plate, inviting a stop.

After reading the article I remembered delivering two Dodge Sprinters to Minot ND in a dry van trailer. To tie them down they had nailed blocks in front and back of the tires with part of a load strap over the tires and under the blocks. Lucky for me they had put them in nose first so I could get in through the rear doors and back them out.

In California box trucks and semi's are only required to have a front plate with current tags

I don't run front plates, though they are required by Utah law. It's simply not a priority for Law Enforcement here.

In my line of work I travel quite a bit and have found that the slim profile of a 1911 in a belt holster is the best on long drives, Lately I've been carrying a Cylinder & Slide custom Springfield 1911 with 3 Wilson 47D magazines loaded with Gold Dot ammo.

So if the bad guys see a Crown Vic with no front tag they know it's 5-0 immediately.

In Miami all (most) of the unmarked police cars had plates that were obvious, I can't remember exactly now but it was a definite tell, didn't make a lot of sense. I don't imagine no front plate is a give away it just reminded me of the Miami cops.

Nor Arizona. Kinda strange when pulling a fifth wheel for someone to read the plate.
