    Is blackface wrong.........

Is blackface wrong and when did it become a sin?

So if one did a blackface skit years ago does that count against you?

No, Fred. It only counts against you.

Like with most issues, Modern humans behave based on their perception and understanding. And, those things tend to change. What was acceptable years ago may not be acceptable now. This does not make a particular issue right or wrong. But, our views on that issue do change.

    Very true, Utah.

Even in today's small world, what is perceived as wrong by one society is perfectly okay by another.

Exactly, and I believe that judgements made need to be based in the context of the day an incident occurred. I find it difficult not to excuse these black face incidents back in the 80's if these gentlemen have not demonstrated an ongoing element of racism.

It does seem to have been wide spread in the south

It apparently does not apply if you are a Dem. He announced he is not resigning.

A biased judgment from someone who lives in the north. Racism has been abundant and still is in all of the northeast for years. I have never heard more disgraceful racial epithets being thrown around in public areas during my visits to Boston and Philly just recently.

I get a completely different vibe when I'm in the N.E. I find racism a lot more prevalent here in the south, from the blacks and the whites. I only spend weeks at a time up there though, I live down here in the south. My SIL was born and raised in Detroit and he doesn't seem to have a racist bone in him. It just seems like there are very few strong friendships between Blacks and Whites here in the south then there is up in the N.E. Besides the "Why some of my best friends are black" that one hears here and there.

The worst racist I have ever known was from New York. That means nothing other than just that. I do not mean to imply that any region is worse than another.

This guy's hate was shocking to me, a Southerner.

That was back then, but not now. You could never guess what we said as kids. I read Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn as a kid, so lets think now not then.

If this debate about racism stems from my comment about blackface my intention was misunderstood. I was talking about being in blackface. In this case there are three people in a small sampling that were photographed in a short time period., all in blackface. I had no intention of accusing anyone one of racism

It would seem to me that the intent at the time of the person assuming the makeup should be the determining factor. For instance, the two politicians in Virginia have admitted to blackface imitating performers more as a tribute because they admired them rather than as a mocking gesture, but the usual suspects make no distinction in that regard. Of course, it is still at issue whether the weasel governor was one of the two pictured on a page dedicated and put together by him in his name. Some of the celebrities who are hiding out, such as Jimmy Kimble, most assuredly were mocking blacks to the ‘nth degree, yet are getting a pass, I guess because they are big libs.

We live in strange times, and the rules are hard to follow.

The rules aren't really all that hard it's just like learning to drive on one-way streets
