NEW version of the AC Cobra

The Cobra GT Roadster for the 1%ers

    https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...Wop_4lXBcMvOIg

I sent the link to my friend Bryan Appleby. He raced the AC Cobra for Carrol Shelby. I told him he should ask them for one to race SCCA then do a write up comparing the original out on the track to the new version. Who better to do it?

I've admired them for years but have balked at the price. Frankly, I'd rather assemble one myself - saving money and meeting my specs at the same time.

I rode is an original with a 427. wow. Then the driver was getting into the throttle on a curve and hit some gravel and we started spinning then hit the hillside. Luckily we only damaged the lower edge of the air intake and ruined some underwear LOL

I've gone backward with classics - shifting from Muscle Cars to vintage sports. After years of trying, finally got my hands on a 1957 Porsche 356, which resulted from a joint Porsche/VW effort with VW building the engine and Porsche building the rest of the car. It's only got about 70 horsepower but it's really light on its feet. It's not worth a lot because it's been totally restored. It reminds me of an old Spitfire I owned cause it's really small. And, the Spitfire also had 70 Hp.

Now, that's a car with functional beauty to it.

This creation is a thing of beauty to my eye. I have lusted after AC Cobras in their many variations since they first made an appearance in the early 60’s with the original small blocks. Then the beefier big blocks and the sensuous curves expanded. The closest I ever got was riding in a 427 replica that was scary fast…and loose. The beast was a hazard and prone to torque itself into a death spiral at any moment. Still, a thing to admire just sitting there, menacing, with its loping cam idle. That thing meant business!

Now, how times have changed. My rather ordinary Tesla Model 3LR + power boost is only a couple tenths slower to 60 and costs 6X less. The Model 3 Performance is actually a few tenths faster and the Model S Plaid is a whole lot faster. None of the strum & drang of the rumbling V8 and all those gear changes but stealth quickness is its own intoxicant, I can attest. I’ve crossed over the bridge in my old age. I have no lust left for the ICE exotics.

A word of warning: do not drive a good BEV, you will most likely never go back to yesterday unless you travel long distances.

That has to be the most beautiful sound in the world. Things dreams are made of. I'd rather hear a good loping cam at idle than Nancy Sinatra moaning "Oh, Ben - Oh, Ben" in my ear.

if memory serves , and it sometimes errs , in 1968 I was sent to McCoy AFB FL . NOTE : it was there i met my bride of 53 years as of this date / Back to the topic .

The Ford Dealership had a Cobra on the showroom with a price tag of 5,000.00 + or - if I am remembering correctly .

At the time , that was way out of my ability to pay . Much like the current one is . Times change income remains static and only moves to cover inflation .
