That gives me an idea...I should be able to build my own little mini-refinery on my flatbed to make my own diesel...Then all I need is to haul a crude oil tanker behind my truck...I can just top it off at producing oil wells I find in my travels...Brilliant!......Ben

    Sweet.

I think the Swedes are coming out with a car that is charged by solar panels on its upper surfaces. If it works - I'm in.

As it turns out, my brilliant plan may require a slightly larger truck to accommodate the equipment needed to make my travels self-sufficient...I'll have to check Craigslist and Ebay for a tanker trailer to store the crude oil...
    • Can be set up and in operation within two days after arrival at a site where the foundation and storage tanks are in place.
    • A single operator may restart the plant from a cold start and have the plant in full operation in less than two hours.
    • Are completely automated and once an operator sets all the controlling points, all product temperatures and flows are controlled automatically. If a product specification drifts off or if a potentially hazardous condition develops, the plant automatically adjusts itself to a safe condition, without the help of an operator and a “first out” annunciator signals the reason for the shutdown by a flashing red light. The operator can then make the necessary adjustment or the plant will automatically shut down.
    • Only a flat support area or concrete slab without anchor bolts is required to support the plant.
    • Requires no water, steam, or instrument air. Fuel supply can be off-gas, natural gas, naphtha, diesel fuel oil or a combination of these fuels.
My fuel mileage is likely to suffer some so I'll have to calculate the number of miles driven to reach the breakeven point...Also I'm taking applications for a young female swamper/gofer to ride in the shotgun seat...There'll be an extensive interview process for that sought after position......Ben

i have often wondered why they don't put an alternator or two attached to the rear wheels so the electric cars can charge while you drive. i understand there will be some rolling resistance increase, but i would think you would still gain some milage from the addition of the alternators on wheel that are just spinning anyway. there is probably more to it than what i think.

i watched tfltrucks this past weekend, they took a new ford lightning (all electric) to the furthest point north in alaska. they had to bring a support charging truck to be able to charge it as there are no charging stations after a certain point. i still don't understand why they made a big deal of the lightning making the trip when they had to drive a gas powered truck to make the trip possable.

As the saying goes---there ain't no free lunch

The resistance created by the alternators and the power required to overcome that would exceed their output.

Many EV's do employ versions of "regenerative braking" where, in simple terms the motors become generators when the driver goes off the gas.

A ride down Red Rock would likely raise your charge meter----but then at some point you have to go back up

I now drive a new 2022 Tesla M3lr+AB, which is by far the best car I have ever driven…and I have owned a bunch of BMWs, Lexuses (Lexi?), Jags, Lincolns, and lesser contenders (even a Peugeot). But, I recognize the Tesla and its like are a privilege that everyone cannot enjoy for the reasons stated below. The goal of forcing everyone into EVs is unreachable with foreseeable technology. Graphene batteries & fusion energy would be nice, but that is not on the horizon.

The Earth gives up some of the most critical minerals necessary for todays batteries and electric motors very grudgingly and makes the process very dirty. There is simply no feasible way there can be enough vehicles produced with them to get even near the goal set out by these numbskulls, not to mention the power grid to feed them with the restrictions these same people put on building the grid.

Btw, this thing is FAST, as in mid-three 0-60 and silent in doing it. What a kick.

I won't argue with your post Joe----but mankind has figured out how to do things today that we could not do yesterday---over and over. When we judge our future abilities based on the paradigms of today we are ignoring man's resolve and resourcefulness.

I see Tesla's out on the road but have never actually driven an electric car. We shall see.
