It took Wifey and I a year to dispatch a rat the cats dragged in. It was extraordinarily smart, easily defeating traps and poison. We finally called an exterminator who said, "He'll be dead in two days," - as he put down some uber poison. Sure enough, that little sucker crawled out into the middle of the kitchen to die in two days.
We've lived here 34 years and I've only seen a rat twice in that time. Both times, they were dead.
