    Rest in Peace Marine

That last surviving Medal of Honor winner from WW2 earned at Iwo Jima has passed away.

Side note. I was the escort at the funeral for the wife of one of the Marines who fought in that battle just a few years ago.

We can never imagine what they went through and saying thank you for your service seems cheap, but that's all I can offer.

I think he dsaid he's holding the Medal for all those that didn't come back.

Seems like quite a guy. May you rest in peace.

My father loved WWII movies, especially ones where the Japanese are getting creamed. We lost a few in the Pacific. Movies are pretty sanitary.

This guy, though, used a flamethrower to burn the enemy to death. He took out a number of machine gun emplacements by covering the enemy soldiers with gasoline and burning them alive. The screams, the smoke, the smell - I don't know how we ask our soldiers to do what they must do and how they cope with the horror afterwards. War is not sanitary. Even the survivors suffer.

God bless him and all our service men and women. Swift journey to the arms of a welcoming God.

What a great man Thank you sir!

I am going to figure out a way of getting my children and grandchildren to watch that. The feelings that he had about our country are the same ones I had, and probably for similar reasons. It isn't happening any longer.
