There's a reason we don't allow 18 year olds to drink alcohol and we don't allow them to purchase handguns. They, as a group, lack the maturity to do so safely. Now some politicians in Wisconsin think they are mature enough to carry a concealed handgun they are not mature enough to purchase. I wonder how that will turn out! Oh! And after they get their concealed carry permit, these same politicians think they should be allowed to bring their guns to school and keep them in their cars on the school parking lot.
Aim HereRepublican state lawmakers are pushing a plan that would lower the minimum age to legally carry a concealed weapon in Wisconsin.
Currently, a Wisconsin resident needs to be 21 years old before they can apply for a concealed carry permit. The GOP-backed bill would lower it to 18.
The measure’s sponsor, state Rep. Shae Sortwell says 18-year-olds have the right to vote or go to war so they should also have the right to carry a concealed weapon, Wisconsin Public Radio reported.
“It is our obligation as the state Legislature under our oath to the Constitution of the United States and oath to the state constitution to ensure equality before the law,” Sortwell said at a public hearing on the plan.
