    Winter solitude

......is on the way. The thermometer has clawed its way into positive territory this morning---snow will begin late this afternoon with winds as high as 50 mph.

I will never understand what people see in winter. It is 27 degrees, cloudy and miserable here. Two days ago it was mid 70s and very nice. I'll take 100 degrees over 27 every day.

It’s 20 degrees and partly cloudy.. beautiful winter day.. air is crisp and clear..

Just pulled the truck to the top of the driveway and lifted the wipers to the up position..

Four inches of snow followed by freezing rain predicted overnight.. snowblower and generator standing by..

85 degrees is as hot as I like.. 70-75 is perfect..

one of the best winter days ever. Yosemite on snowshoes just as the blizzard stopped. We had the valley to ourselves

Late yesterday afternoon, the field below the barn, was carpeted with deer feeding on the grass that I left about 6" long. This morning there were no morning visitors. The temperature was -3 F and that sends the deer into the woods to lie down on a thick bed of leaves with the legs under them and their heads curled back to minimize the area exposed to heat loss. Their natural "blanket" is extremely effective in blocking the cold. I once sat on a hide (hair on) spread on a bloc of ice and it was amazingly warm.

We have had a flock of robins seemingly playing chicken with mother nature this winter. A few days ago they were walking around on the ice on the ponds. Now, it seems that mother nature has sent them on their way.

Have x12 gallon, two days, of generator gas.. on generator we must light the stove with a match and watch over the air tv.. gas heat and hot water still work—- ain’t askeert (no tree limbs on the cars please)..

In 2012 we has a car in the garage totaled when a treetop hit the garage wall and knocked everything, including shelves, onto the car..

Neighborhood has three long E-W streets, each served by a different power feed..

We are one mile east of the NRA Museum

Snowing hard since just after dark, pleasantly quiet, the wind hasn't picked up yet. Even 6 inches of snow with 50 mph winds becomes a completely different animal. That 6 inches can become 6 ft drifts.
The deer put in their normal appearance before dark.
