    Canada confronts their own shame

Canadians have a well developed and seemingly unique way of ignoring their own uncomfortable realities.

During my "Canadian years" I saw cultural denial played out numerous times but none more clearly than the avoidance of coming to grips with the systemic abuse of their indigenous children educated (and held captive) in the Government operated boarding school system.

When the breadth of this abuse was exposed it did not happen on the front page of the newspapers but well back in the interior. Little was ever mentioned on broadcast news. I made an effort to follow this for multiple reasons, including the curiosity of how long this would be ignored.

These were not schools but orginized resorts for pedofiles. The best thing I can say is that technology ended any excuse to continue this shameful practice.

Finally, Canada is publicly acknowledging this travisty.

Canada has long been a nation of hypocrisy it's nothing new they like to feel good about themselves while at the same time maintaining policies that tend to drive the folks into a semi socialist Society and they are in an internal search for Utopia a day they will never find. I suggest anyone just go to their website and look at the requirements for what it takes to immigrate into Canada. after you take a look at it compare it to ours. The best asset Canada has is with a neighbor the United States otherwise they would just be another little nothing country in the world.

The biggest problem is that the people that need to fix the problems are also the ones supporting them. Hopefully as you say, they are now in the spot light and that will create some change.

On a moose hunting trip to Newfoundland I asked my "newfie" guide about their indigenous people. He announced they didn't have any and when I questioned that he told me it was simple---they had killed them all!

This past Sunday, 60 minutes had a segment on the Canadian Schools for Indigenous children.

As revealing as it is, it missed the magnitude to this tragedy---this was not localized in western Canada. It went from BC to the Maritimes in the east. This shortcoming notwithstanding, this is a very telling piece and I think it worth the 13 minutes it takes to view. The stain of this tragedy still hasn't been fully acknowledged by mainstream Canadians or the Canadian government.

I also am watching the Canadian psyche on display with the truckers in Ottawa. PM Trudeau seems painfully embarrassed to have to even speak about this unusual Canadian action---it is terribly impolite and inconsiderate of these people to do this in such an unruly and public way. Canadians are far too civilized for such conduct

I have been thinking about Billy lately--that post above was from 2017 when we started this thread. I hope Billy is OK.
