    Jobless claims

    From this morning's WSJ:

Weekly jobless claims fell sharply to the lowest level in 52 years, reflecting the labor market’s tightening as the economy recovers from the effects of the pandemic.

Worker filings for initial unemployment benefits, a proxy for layoffs, dropped 71,000 to 199,000 last week, the lowest level since November 1969, the Labor Department reported Wednesday.

It's interesting to see the labor market tighten when Americans are quitting work and retiring at higher rates. It would seem contradictory.

The entire job market and all the numbers involved in those are totally maladjusted because most economists are not used to dealing with numbers involving a pandemic. Those type of algorithms and theories are being learned as we go along.

I don't understand what is gong on. Claims are down but business of all kinds can not find people to work. I know of 2 restaurants that have temporarily closed due to lack of employees.

    How or these people surviving?

Perhaps it's because there are a crap load of jobs getting offered that pay way better than food service and you don't have people talking down to you and treating you like you are **** and you have less chance of contracting covid not serving unmasked mouth breathers
