Cool. I'd love to see a pic of it and specs of caliber, etc.

Be sure to remind your nephew that since he chooses to bypass NJ's unreasonable laws which punish honest citizens for exercising their Constitutional rights, that he can never show his newest acquisition to anyone for fear of being ratted on, that he shouldn't accidentally defend his home or family against attack with it for fear of prosecution for unlawful possession, and that if that valuable heirloom should become lost, misplaced, stolen or lost in fire or flood, he can't claim the loss to his insurance company because he wasn't supposed to have it in NJ in the first place...

I'll keep my freely-owned possessions where I'm not punished for owning them, thank you......Ben

    I’ll get some pictures...

Nephew may not want it.. I don’t know him well enough.. he is the only member of the generation behind me that has any interest in family history.. and my New Jersey family is very diverse, the nephew is in one side of the family, the cousin with the comment is in the “other side”

I’ll also try and get an illustrated history of my grandfather together and post it..

Joined the USMC as a drummer at 16, with a little help from the court system.. straight to China for five years.. retired in mid 1930s asFirst Sargent.. recalled in 1942 as a 1st lt/ Captain.. stayed in, reverted to enlisted and retired at age 60 as a Sergeant Major.. Drummer to Captain.. never a Private, E8 or2nd lt.. Formed the 6th Marine Division on Guadalcanal, invaded Okinawa.. occupied Japan, in his 40s.. (before MacArthur arrived).. he acquired souvenirs while at Yokosuka before Army arrived..

    My Grandfather, the Sergeant Major..

Yea, an update would be great. Thanks.

Utah's new concealed carry law goes into effect May 5th. At that time, citizens here will no longer need a CC permit. But, I need to be careful and not have a firearm with me while doing a Weed Run - for Utah's law does not make guns and drugs kosher if the Feds find them together.

That debate is also on in Texas where many people I know say they will not renew their CHL because they won't need it...I counter with "need it for what?"...Carry?...No you won't need a CHL for that purpose if Constitutional carry becomes law in Texas, but what about other states?...I have not kept an accurate, up to date count, but at my last tally 38 states recognized the Texas CHL for legal concealed carry in their states...Without the Texas CHL concealed carry would only be good to Texas residents in those other states in which Constitutional carry is the law...

And what happens the next time you buy or trade for or transfer a gun from a licensed dealer?...You'll still have to fill out ATF Form 4473 just as you always have, but suddenly you'll have to wait while your background check is approved...It might be a mere inconvenience of a few minutes if it goes right through, but there might also be a delay from NICS, or their system might be overwhelmed at the moment or even broken as it sometimes is...In those cases you'll wait the required time, as much as three government business days, before you can take your gun home...With my Texas CHL, I've already gone through an ATF approved background check, and I walk out with my gun at the moment of purchase just as I always have...

I've had my Texas CHL in my pocket since the inception in the mid 90's, and I'll keep it as long as it's available to me no matter how many states, including Texas, make Constitutional carry the law of the land......Ben

    - Ben

With the current Supremes, it could happen.

Boys do you really want "all" Californians to carry guns concealed or otherwise? 30+ million armed nimbnuts is a scary thought

While waiting for SCOTUS to rule on Constitutional Carry on the case it has accepted, I would caution to separate yourself from New Jersey as much as possible in any transaction that results in your weapon ending in that state, Sandman. You have an indelible record of your intent on the internet and zealous anti-gun nuts in charge of New Jersey. Would handing the heirloom to your nephew in Virginia absolve you of culpability in New Jersey, it’s obvious intended destination...I do not know?
