I've been hearing about cooking those that way for years I guess I need to get around and do it.

Actually I'll probably skip the beer can next time in the smoker. I don't think it gets hot enough to create any steam. If I'm doing beer butts I'll keep doing them on the grill ..

I think I'll pass...Having been forced to live on an exclusive diet of the KFC $1 special once a day for six months after my first divorce in 1977, I despise chicken...As for beer?...Well that was the root cause of that failed marriage, so it's a double whammy for me...No thanks......Ben

Ben you can use DR Pepper instead. Gives it a different taste depending on what soda you use.

But will it turn the chicken into something edible, like maybe beef or even catfish?......Ben

No---but it does help the Dr Pepper be a bit more tolerable

Oddly enough I gradually moved away from Diet Dr Pepper when it seemed the amount of carbonation bothered me...I now drink Diet Coke when I'm at a fast food joint, but my favorite is diet grape soda which is almost impossible to find locally...I stock up when it's available...

My tenant however, drinks Dr Pepper (fully leaded and sugared) exclusively...I've tried to pass my hard-won knowledge of sugary crap on to her, but as usual my words are lost on women......Ben

I have had great luck using a can of 7-Up and stuffing the cavities also with onion and celery.
I even have four or five metal racks that hold the can and make a better base to keep from tipping over.

I prefer my beer can chicken on the grill. You can’t get that crispy outside on the smoker. I also prefer fish and burgers on the grill.

Try your favorite meatloaf on the smoker. You will be surprised.
