All he is going to do is say a bunch of things we won't like. I would just as soon he keeps his mouth shut.

This complaint, from someone who won't like what Biden would say anyway, reminds of the review of a restaurant by a food critic - the food was bad and the portions were small.

Considering the way people have been posting about what a disaster Trump was , I think a question about when our President will address the Nation is not being butt hurt . Nor do I consider it an unnecessary complaint , but , a justifiable question about a President who to this date has done everything he could to avoid answering to the public.

The fact that I think he is a worthless **** and possibly suffering from pedophilia and I will add dementia has nothing to do with the question.

I agree , no president will answer to the public and recently they have all been babbling idiots. Trump did good things but his inability to simply shut the eff up was his down fall. Maybe the current Prez learned a lesson. Sorry you are unhappy.

Not necessarily unhappy . Just very disappointed in how the majority of voters hated a tweeting fool more than they liked a tweeting fool who did good things for America.

I simply assumed our President is represented by his Spokesperson - Jen Psaki. However, if that does not work for others - I get it.

True, Trump was decisive, but his ignorance of policy was well-known. I don't recall which aide it was but he recounted stealing a paper from Trump's desk to avoid Trump from acting impulsively. Those that worked closest with him considered him unintelligent but he was smart enough to figure out what people wanted and give it to them.

I don't say this to denigrate Trump so much as to point out that in both Trump's and Biden's case, we may be seeing, for different reasons, a government run by aides. Because Trump was impatient with details, aides could manipulate the flow of information to him and steer him to some degree. With Biden, he may rely on others due to his age.

Or it could be that Biden's age and his speech impediment combine to make him appear unsteady. I dunno.

Without comment as to the content of speech there is no question that Trump is in a different Stratosphere in his ability to communicate and articulate clearly what he has on his mind. Kevin I think you're wildly under playing Biden's communication problems and as well his cognitive deficits.

You could be right. I just don't have enough information about Biden to reach a decision. I'm considered opinionated but I take a while to reach an opinion. Of course, one I have reached an opinion, I seem to have an overwhelming need to tell everyone...

So now we find out why the delay on addressing the nation.

    1) He was waiting for the biggest piece of legislation in the last generation to be passed.

    2) He wanted to mark the occasion of that legislation to coincide with the one year anniversary of the declaration of the pandemic.

He gave a speech wildly different in tone than Trump ever did.

on edit - I forgot about Medicare under LBJ and Reagan's revamping of the tax code, so this is only the biggest piece of legislation is the last generation, not the last two. Ah, hyperbole, thy name is politics...

I was unable to listen and thus employed what has become my norm for similar speeches---I read the transcript this morning. Independent of my own, possibly partisan beliefs, I was struck by the change in "tone". It was frank, concelatory, hopeful and at times moderately self laudatory. I thought it overall to be credible and factuaral.

From the transcript this part seemed to summarize to me the overall tone of the speech:

And finally, fifth, and maybe most importantly: I promise I will do everything in my power, I will not relent until we beat this virus, but I need you, the American people. I need you. I need every American to do their part. And that’s not hyperbole. I need you.

I need you to get vaccinated when it’s your turn and when you can find an opportunity and to help your family and friends and neighbors get vaccinated as well.

Because here’s the point: If we do all this, if we do our part, if we do this together, by July the Fourth, there’s a good chance you, your families, and friends will be able to get together in your backyard or in your neighborhood and have a cookout and a barbecue and celebrate Independence Day. That doesn’t mean large events with lots of people together, but it does mean small groups will be able to get together.

After this long hard year, that will make this Independence Day something truly special, where we not only mark our independence as a nation, but we begin to mark our independence from this virus.

But to get there, we can’t let our guard down.
    .
    .
    .
    .

A July Fourth with your loved ones is the goal—but a goal. A lot can happen; conditions can change.

The scientists have made clear that things may get worse again, as new variants of the virus spread.

And we’ve got work to do to ensure everyone has confidence in the safety and effectiveness of all three vaccines.
    In a word, refreshing
