    I wish I remembered meeting him, for I was there for Thiokal's engine test firings accompanying my FIL who was a lead engineer. I'm probably typical, 'cause I only remember meeting the astronauts who came for the tests.

    My FIL was never the same after the Challenger explosion. He, and the other staff at his facility, felt responsible for the failure. He retired soon after that, seemingly broken.

    Looking back at the disaster, it now strikes me that there are so many victims of such a loss.
