NBC this morning mentioned Alice Johnson in a story about Presidential pardons. Apart from whether she deserved one or not, the reporter said she had served a long sentence despite being a "nonviolent offender".

Back it up a minute.

Johnson got involved with cocaine distribution after losing her job at FedEx. She was no minor player. She was convicted of drug conspiracy and money laundering. She got involved with other shady stuff such as buying a house in such a way as to avoid triggering a reporting requirement. She was in it up to her eyeballs.

Like Paul Harvey says, sometimes you need to know the rest of the story. NBC was leaving an impression that wasn't right. Technically accurate, sure, but wrong.
