My take-away from your identity crisis is your age.

I guess that explains the fact that he is on the speed dial for the archeology department. He doesn't have to even guess about ancient civilizations.

Age is what you make of it. My current contract is up this year. We are discussing a renewal but I am not sure that I want to go for another 5 year contract. If I do that we would take me to 81.

Back to the original thought in this thread.

On the front page of the NYT they list the Op-eds for the day. While I do not share the apparent joy shown by the author, I do believe his basic premise is correct:

    Friedman is a commie.

I noticed this morning that the NYT gave NY a pass on the vax rollout debacle.

Even commies can get it right.
Again, I have no joy as seems to being expressed by Friedman. I posted that only as a timely comment.

Friedman might be a communist. Doesn't mean he's wrong. Dismissing him for who he is instead of what he is saying is a logical fallacy.

I don’t have any problem judging people based on their opinions or associations. In fact many fascists are emboldened by recent events.

Judging an argument being made by a person just because that person is not to one's liking is what kept Blacks from having their right to vote protected until 1965. It got Eugene Debs put in jail for being a pain in Wilson's butt.

In 1927, Sacco and Vanzetti got convicted of a crime they almost certainly did not do, because of who they were - Italian, poor, Anarchists. They went to the electric chair. Vanzetti had this to say:

If it had not been for these thing
I might have lived out my life
talking at street corners to scorning men.
I might have die, unmarked, unknown, a failure.
Now we are not a failure.
This is our career and our triumph. Never
in our full life could we hope to do such work
for tolerance, for justice, for men's understanding
of man, as now we do by accident.
Our words, our lives, our pains - nothing!
The taking of our lives - lives of a good shoemaker and
    a poor fishpeddler -
all! That last moment belongs to us -
    that agony is our triumph.
Judging someone by their associations can lead to poor outcomes.

The Ballad of Sacco and Vanzetti.

Father, yes, I am a prisoner
Fear not to relay my crime
The crime is loving the forsaken
    Only silence is shame
And now I'll tell you what's against us
An art that's lived for centuries
Go through the years and you will find
    What's blackened all of history
    Against us is the law
With its immensity of strength and power
    Against us is the law!
Police know how to make a man
    A guilty or an innocent
Against us is the power of police!
The shameless lies that men have told
Will ever more be paid in gold
Against us is the power of the gold!
    Against us is racial hatred
And the simple fact that we are poor
My father dear, I am a prisoner
Don't be ashamed to tell my crime
The crime of love and brotherhood
    And only silence is shame
With me I have my love, my innocence
    The workers, and the poor
For all of this I'm safe and strong
    And hope is mine
    Rebellion, revolution don't need dollars
    They need this instead
    Imagination, suffering, light and love
And care for every human being
You never steal, you never kill
You are a part of hope and life
The revolution goes from man to man
    And heart to heart
And I sense when I look at the stars
That we are children of life
    Death is small
