    The dead

I just read an obituary of sorts in this morning's WSJ. It lists all five who died. Only officer Sicknick was not part of the mob.

The dead, all were deeply tied to trump, driven by his lies and their own promotion of those lies. Combine that with what we have seen since ---including the rage showered on lindsey grahman at the airport and it is obvious this is not going to go away easily---I believe this event is more of a beginning than an end.

If trump had one shred of decency in him, he would immediately admit, and continue to admit, the lies of his election claims---but I'm not sure even that would calm this beast that he has released on the our Country.

Absent of such an unlikely reversal, the media needs to take the spot light off trump---he is irrelevant at his point---treat him as such--ignore him and allow him to stew in his own insanity.

We made a mistake---let us move on.

Democrats have their far out loonies also, but at least with them, you can discuss policy because they live in the same reality everyone else does.

The people at that rally can't meet that bar.

They've also been told for 25 years that they are victims. We've just ended the annual "we can't even say Merry Christmas" anymore nonsense that gets trotted out as a sign of this supposed persecution. I feel like Inigo Montoya - "I do not think that word means what you think it means".

In my mother's family, Greek Catholics were actually persecuted in Russia. Their churches were confiscated and given to the Russian Orthodox. The church sacred vessel were melted down. Their records were burned. People were jailed for attending Liturgy and priests were murdered by the secret police. My family worshipped deep in the woods, away from anyone who might inform on them. Priests were hunted and moved secretly from house to house.

That's religious persecution. Yet because people don't say Merry Christmas, these Evangelical Christians flop on the ground, hug their sides and wail about how hard they have it.

A segment of the population has been told they are victims of persecution, that their persecutors are not just wrong but downright evil incarnate, for so long that they have a SECOND generation believing this crap. How do we just move on?

The blister needs to be pierced somehow.

Step one would be to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine. It was repealed in 1987 by Reagan and Limbaugh was the first to take advantage of it. He showed there was a market for anger and victimhood and hyperbolic rhetoric in the right wing and Fox came next.

The Fairness Doctrine was the key to the creation of the hermetically sealed conservative media ecosystem.

I share that fear Bo----I was thinking earlier we should consider a "virtual" inauguration and do it on Zoom---let the bastards shoot virtual bullets

Someone might whisper in trump's ear----back em down pal or you can guess your reward----the bastard is nothing but a bully anyway---no spine at all.

The reality that we are far from the end of this continues to grow in my mind---this is not the end, it is only the beginning.

trump is not disciplined enough to prevent his ego and big mouth from doing and saying things to insight a riot---and when he does lock him up!

I am afraid you are right and there is no way to keep it from happening if that is what these fools have in their heads.

Not listed in Dave's count was there were 60+ Capital Police that sustained injuries that I heard about.
