    Election Rules

This election once again points out what a mess our elections are. We cannot afford to have 50 different sets of rules for national elections. I guess that really only applies to presidential elections since that is the only truely national election. So, I think we need federal rules on how presidential elections are run. Rules that apply to all 50 states so that we don't have the circus that election has become.

As far as how all of the other elections are run, leave that to the states to screw up as they see fit. And I assure you they will continue to screw them up until the voters have had enough and revolt.

The gov sets the date the states determine how their people get to vote. All votes have to be certified by Dec 14th.

Works fine except in the instant gratification era we now become used to.

Now that mail in voting was done the states with still counting ballots are controlled by Republican's and didn't want any earlier vote counting done. They also controlled where election boxes were going to be placed, date to except mail-in ballots, etc.... I just hope some of those dates didn't cut out military personnel in getting them back in time.

If every state did it exactly the same there would be a better opportunity for fraud. With everyone doing it by their own rules what works to commit fraud in one state may not in the others.

but I agree. Someone need to clean up the sh!t show..

If this is what we can expect in the future, I'm done with it. It is a failure that will ultimately bring us down.

You'll get no argument from me. Not to pick on Texas---but the "rule" of only one drop box per county just might have won the dumb ass of the election stunt to limit voting.

An unrelated story that has come to my mind as I try to follow the twists and turns of this election takes me back to 2000. I had voted for GWB via absentee ballot and found myself in Germany on election day. That night---and 6 hours ahead I spent the entire night watching the returns---which for me began at midnight---and by morning I didn't know anything more than I did the night before----and I wasn't to find out who won until the SCOTUS "voted". I'm about as sleep deprived with this one as I was in 2000.

That stunt cost the governor any chance of receiving a vote from me in the future. Frickin' idiot!

    I agree something needs done.

My other question is why every time we have one of these "contested" states it's ALWAYS the last votes are predominantly democrats? You NEVER hear that the democrat lead is shrinking.

Waiting on the democrat stragglers AGAIN. These are the people who used to complain about me starting things on time.

There is zero proof that anything nefarious is going on. As to why it seems that many late counted ballots are from Democrats'---they used the mail in option more than Republicans. Simply the inverse of why election day results were more Republican.

Early votes and mail-in ballots need to be counted as received to help eliminate the delay. Mail-in deadlines need to be adjusted to ensure adequate time to be counted. Once the deadline is past, no more ballots accepted.

Arizona allows the mail in ballots to be counted (I think ) 14 days prior to the election day. The results can not be released until after the voting closes though...

One of the reasons PA has lagged in the count is that we could not begin counting ballots until Tuesday. This was the first time that we had mail in voting, other than absentee voting. Previously, the number of absentee ballots was not significant and not reading them until election day was not an issue.
This year, in anticipation of a much larger block of votes the Democrats proposed a law that would allow early counting. The Republican controlled legislature refused to even allow the bill to come to a vote--a favorite trick used by the two heads of the houses of the legislature.

Both of whom are from iron clad, bullet proof, Republican districts and so have no concern with political retribution for their routine abuse of power.

AZ had a very large number of people that drop off their mail in ballots in person on election day. That is our back log.

Mail-in voting should be discouraged as much as possible to avoid chain-of-custody of ballots being subjected to running through a phalanx of union workers with the inevitable despoiling we have seen in too numerous to mention examples of workers destroying their charges. No telling how many other times this happens undetected. Of course postal worker manipulation is just one method to untrue the vote when you flood the community with unrequested and unprotected or minimally protected ballots.

Sorry Joe, but I believe mail in should be an option. However in some states they need a witness to also sign. Not helpful in very rural places where maybe the only person is the mailman. Think AK before throwing a fit please.

This year is the first time I have not voted in person.. I did absentee in the primary and then in this one.. I dropped off my envelope at city hall both times.. the primary was a secure box in the driveway, this election they moved the box into the lobby, and assigned a person to watch the box, because of security concerns..

I don’t think that I will vote in person again in the near future.. absentee worked so well..

We are next to the commonwealths largest jurisdiction. Fairfax County 1.1M residents.. they had their absentee stock pile counted by 0200.. they are permitted to pre screen the outer envelopes so starting when the polls open, they open the pre screened ballots and run them through the scanner.. the system works.. military ballots are still trickling in, and being counted.
