Not working out for me either

I have become increasingly antsy to get back to the plant on Long Island. I have been talking to my hotel and working on how to
accomplish a safe return there (I will continue to have "my" room)but the restaurant is still a problem. I may have to resort to microwave fare and a few carry out options for that solution.

Now, today we have two guys in the office that have come down with covid-19 We haven't had any cases in the office since late spring---and now this

    I'm bummed

Flashbacks .. life on the road..

Best regular stop that I had was thee Novatel (French Holiday Inn) in Princeton (North Brunswick NJ..) they had a public dining room and bar.. but through a door next to the bar was a small four stool bar and three or four tables.. reserved for guest/business travelers.. you grabbed an empty stool or chair and could have dinner with other business travelers, not eat alone.. news and Jeopardy were on bar tv.. was the best in a bad situation..

That is ironic, I lived in the Novatel in Mississauga Ont for two years. The restaurant was excellent. When I first stayed there they had lamb chops with goat cheese, they were fantastic. Latter they changed the menu, but the chief made an accommodation for me. If I were going to dine at the hotel tonight and would like to have lamb, I would tell the waiter at breakfast and tonight I would have lamb with goat cheese.

We once stopped at New Hope Pa/Lambertsville NJ.. there was a craft brewery there, River Horse, had a hippopotamus on the logo.. My wife thought it was the cleverest logo ..

My routine at the Novatel was to have a beer or two with dinner and then take one back to the room.. one evening my dinner beer was in a River Horse glass.. wowzers! Spousal Unit would love that glass.. so I handed the glass to the bar keep for a refill and off to my room.. I had been given a “new” glass (Bud Light as I remember) was I ever surprised when I finished the beer, in my room, only to realize that “cheaters never prosper”...

I was now on a quest!

I just checked to see if you could buy a glass on line---sadly, the answer is no
I don't often get in that area but if I do and have a few minutes I'll run in and see if I can buy a glass for your wife

Thanks for the offer.. I was in & out of the Novetel for another year or so..

    She has a glass..

I drank a lot of beer for that glass..

On edit: I’m glad to hear that a small independent brewer is still in business.. I was at the Novetel 25 years ago..

The Novatel is now a holiday Inn per Google maps.. and time marches on, Mississauga in a Marriott ..

The Novetel I lived at is no longer there. Shortly after I came back to the US they were forced to take off the top two floors because air traffic. They were just off the approach. My room was on the top floor and I could look out my window and look on a level plain at the planes landing. Why it was OK when built but not OK latter remains a mystery to me. Apparently the reduced size made it unprofitable.

We stopped just west of Mississauga back in 2001/02.. on the way to see my aunt in Michigan (we are through ther every few years but usually stop away from metro Toronto.. we were at the KOA about 15 miles west of the airport on 401, behind the horse track and casino.. we went to a Jay’s game and had an arranged tour of the Orion (Daimler at the time) bus plant..

When we crossed the border at 1000 islands, we stopped at the welcome to Canada store, to use the restroom (washroom in Canada) and walk the pup.. the lodging person tried to sell us lodging but when informed that we had reservations, and being the nice Canadian she was, insisted on printing out detail directions to the KOA.. well.. the directions didn’t match my directions.. she was off by one exit number.. we used mu directions, there was a KOA listing on the highway sign at “my” exit.. when leaving for Michigan we noted that at the next exit, “her exit”, there was also a campground.. it was a naturist (nudist) campground.. we still laugh about those directions..

Note: on Canadian interstate signs.. people are displayed as solid/filled in human figures.. but naturist “attractions” have outlined (like a coloring/couloring book) figures... there are several naturist sites in the highway from New Hampshire to Quebec City.. (several laughs)
