Bad day on the delivery dock...

Imagine ordering your new choo-choo train puller, and awaiting delivery only to watch this happen..."Sign right here, please sir?"...

Note: Criminal intent on the part of the crane rigger was ruled out because that would have been a loco motive......Ben

Did you see the frame bend in the middle

Why would anyone suspect the crane operator of a crime?
It looked very much like the cable completely separated, and my guess is that someone (insurance company) will be coming after the maker and seller of the cable for the damages under product liability laws, if the load was within the cable weight specs.

My guess is the manufactures/suppliers of that rigging will go untouched---even if they can be identified:

The video shows a brand new American Engineered EMD GT46C-ACe locomotive dropped while being unloaded from a cargo-ship. According to online sources, the incident took place at the port city of Owendo, Gabon, West Africa.Jan 23, 2014
Visually the rigging looked to be a hodgepodge. From my POV, this is typical third world methodology---"that's good enough".

I really don't understand why they would need to lift it like that. Seems it would be manufactured on rails and delivered on rails.

Every port worth its salt (pun intended) has rails. It shouldn't be too hard to create a transport ship that accepts railroad equipment on rails.

Even though they've been at it since 1928, I suppose even Seatrain can't meet the demand......Ben

A ship floating would be a formidable task to drive a locomotive from on rails, I would imagine. The swaying and heaving with the movement of that much weight would take some kind of structure to accommodate. Maybe dry docking the ship first? Much easier to move with a proper crane...the key word being “proper” or sufficient.
