By "pack out" I mean cutting up in the component parts so that you can carry them. In this particular case, I did the "gutless" method, which basically means to skin and then remove the big pieces (backstraps, legs, head). You have a little trim for grinding around the remaining bone structure. And you just reach into the cavity to remove the tenderloins. Its very clean and saves the job of gutting, which is a pretty big job in itself.

This was a 20 yard pack to a nice clean atv, my shortest ever for an elk. My longest pack was my Rocky Mountain bighorn which was 8 miles one-way. My yukon sheep was about 20 miles if you count the float trip. My furthest elk was just short of a mile.
