So does Trump appoint a new Justice before the election to cover off in case he loses? Or are there rules around such a situation?

There will be a big fight over that but my instinct is they won't get that done before the election. But I'm no expert on the subject. I just think that Justice Ginsburg was a great lady and she will be missed

Nominating and approving a replacement for a great liberal justice of SOCTUS will make the cheese more binding on both the presidential race and senate races before the election or after. It will be fun, important and rambunctious.

Fate has thrown us a left and right hook.

    Oh, wow!

I am so sorry to hear this news. I didn't always agree with her decisions, but I respect the hell out of her and her life. May she rest in peace.

I hope politics can stand aside for a while in her honor.

Try to remember that even though opposites, Scalia and Ginsburg were buddies. If they could do it, so can we.

Meaning it a respectful way, I think she was America's sweetheart. I really can't think of anyone who would disrespect her.

You can be magnanimous if you like, but RBG was not my sweetheart or anything close to it. She was a politician on our highest court - something all should dread - and made her rulings with that in mind. That her dying words were allegedly purely political wishes is a final tell. I will not miss her presence there. As Justice and good friend of RGB, Antonin Scalia, once said of her, “Some very good people can have some very bad ideas.” I imagine she was a “nice” person and her family and friends are very sad. That is as it should be. My consolations to them, if they care, which I suspect they do not.

The President finds out Justice Ginsberg has passed for the first time. He looked truly shaken and sad.

She should have been gone long ago, unable to go through a Supreme Court hearing without sleeping through it. She had the opportunity to retired while Obama was in office, and chose not to. So now it's Trump's nomination, and since the White House and Senate are both held by the GOP, McConnell will call a vote on the nominee.

I don't understand any of the (Ill) logic about waiting for the next president to appointment the next justice. In my view it is the responsibility of the sitting president and senate to expeditiously get it done so that the court can operate as intended.

The Rep's held up an Obama Supreme Court candidate for months in O's last term so therefore they are crying fowl of a quick confirmation among a million other things like the election, the socialists who want to take our country over and last but not least our friendly citizens who want to burn and loot our cities to the ground.
