Not sure where to best post this

An article in this morning's WSJ discusses at length the state of technology of autonomous ships. They seem to be far ahead of other land (or sea) based efforts, with some now delivering groceries, while others patrol the seas. The USN will see their second fully autonomous ship (Sea Hunter II) launched at the end of this year.

Since linking to the WSJ is pointless you might find this article of interest.

"Unlike a traditional warship, Sea Hunter II and her predecessor Sea Hunter are designed to traverse open waters without a single crew member."

I think we're growing (historically) a healthy mix of private and government works. Though this may be unsettling for some, in the long run - I think it's healthy.

The evil Russians have claimed for several years to have autonomous nuclear powered and armed submarines in service, which can be stationed covertly and indefinitely in or near our major ports and cities.

Well, I don't like the sound of that. I don't trust Putin and his cohorts.

Hopefully, the Russians are blustering. But, then again, if we've developed autonomous subs, perhaps they have too.

I still don't understand why we have to have an enemy. I mean kind of like Russia if we went to war with them, destroyed them etc... we wouldn't go there. What do they have that we don't already have an abundance of? If Russia beat us they could never come here, them hillbillies in the Appellations would never run out of holes to hide in. War for land in modern times is an obsolete option I think. I understand we'll always have Muslims and Jehovah witnesses but why can't anyone just get along. Yea I know i'm just being..........

Am I bad for thinking that's funny (and right)?
