    Chief Executive Manufacturing CEO Briefing
    August 13, 2020

Hidden amid the announcement of a democrat VP candidate, the endless, gloomy roundup of stalled school openings and Covid counts was one of the most fascinating—and important—manufacturing developments in years. If you missed it, it’s worth a look.
And yes trump helped this along

I fear, justifiably I think, that Trump’s defense of American commerce against Chi-Com policy of lie-cheat-steal will be rapidly reversed should Biden or Harris grab the reigns of power. Reason enough to oppose them.

I disagree with that assessment. trump did not start this reversal, it was well underway before he showed up. trump did act (knowingly or not) as a catalyst to push this exodus along---and for that I will give him credit. Keep in mind that prior to his current gig (and continuing until recently) trump traded with China with abandon, while whipping the home town boys (like me) with the cheap ass prices.

That said, Biden may soften the stance of the US versus China---but the die is cast. Business leaders are not going to continue to put their very future at risk in China. We have learned a very painful lesson. Placing our balls in the hands of someone not necessarily committed to our well being and comfort can be damn painful.

Commencing germ warfare against you does tend to open some closed eyes.

That makes me recall one of my last meetings with the then President of Knoll, a woman who I had the highest regard for and was responsible for the favorable terms of my firing and soft landing.

I had just returned from evaluating proposed vendors in China, one of whom was being championed as the exclusive die caster for the Al frame members for a new chair. After describing the wretched state of this company, my question to her was: "how much of our future are you willing to put at risk with someone like this?

The good thing was that she got it---the bad thing---the Chairman did not and needed me out of his way---which turned out to be a wonderful turn of events.

Joe Biden has a long history of praising Red China and falling under their spell...even dragging his druggy son over there and coming back with an unprecedented $1,500,000,000 Chi-Com investment in Hunters new business venture. He was instrumental in gaining them Most Favored Nation status.

A couple of Joe’s quotes point to what he would do toward the Chi-Com’s as president —

“China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man...,” Biden said this on the Chi-Coms, “I mean, you know, they’re not bad folks, folks. But guess what, they’re not competition for us.”

Joe also has said, “As a young member of the Foreign Relations Committee, I wrote and I said and I believed then what I believe now, that a rising China is a positive, positive development, not only for China, but for America and the world writ large.”

I hope he is asked point blank about what he would do with China policy.

He was not alone--or first in that---go back to Nixon and Kissinger. As for favored nation status--I was in China when that happened and GWB was in the Whitehouse.

President Grants Permanent Trade Status to China
Statement by the Deputy Press Secretary
President Bush Grants Permanent Normal Trade Relations
    Status to China

Today the President signed a proclamation granting permanent normal trading relations (PNTR) status to the People's Republic of China and terminating application of Jackson-Vanik provisions to China. Taking effect January 1, 2002, this is the final step in normalizing U.S.-China trade relations and welcoming China into a global, rules-based trading system. It marks the completion of more than a decade of bilateral and multilateral negotiations, and the beginning of a process of working constructively with China to help it fully implement its commitments on trade liberalization.

Congress authorized these actions subject to the President's certification that the final terms of entry for China into the WTO were at least equivalent to those agreed to bilaterally between the United States and China in 1999, and China's successful entry into the WTO. The President certified the equivalency of the final terms on November 9, 2001; China formally became a WTO member on December 11, 2001

There were few in Washington without that stain on their hands.

GWB is not running for President this year.
Donald Trump has been warning of China for decades, and swinging on them now.

I think Trump is better on China than Biden. Despite his Deleware tough guy routine, Biden is a poofter.

Worse, he is complicit and paid.
