    Hail to the wannabe king

    From this morning's WSJ:

WASHINGTON—President Trump said he was ready to approve a purchase of the U.S. operations of the Chinese video-sharing app TikTok, but only if the government receives “a lot of money” in exchange—an assertion of presidential power that appeared to lack precedent.

Microsoft Corp. MSFT 5.62% said it hopes to acquire TikTok’s business in the U.S. and three other countries. Mr. Trump said he told the company’s chief executive, Satya Nadella, that “a very substantial portion of that price is going to have to come into the Treasury of the United States because we’re making it possible for this deal to happen.”

If TikTok is a national security threat collecting and feeding personal data from American citizens to the Red Chinese government, as is alleged, then it is the president’s job to thwart it. Brash is the way Trump does things; seldom subtlely. I get your umbrage from Trump’s demeanor. If it is true what many say about TikTok’s actions, what do you think a president should do about it keeping in mind that the CCP has a long history of lie, cheat & steal against us?

My complaint is picking Microsoft as a winner, when that company has a pathetic record of compliance with the Chi-Com’s.

No matter the treat this might pose, extracting a payment from the deal is at BEST without precedence---most would call this ransom or extortion---take your pick.

I call it completing the circle on these Chi-Com creeps.
Keep in mind that >200 Chinese owned companies cashed in to the tune of X-hundred million$ of the Covid relief money the country went further in debt to provide companies (while no one was watching and in the rush), as relief from the sickness Zi and his criminals sent us. I wonder how much of that debt the Chinese bought? How’s that for irony?

The Chi-Com’s have been kicking our ass; it’s way past time we kick back. You think Sino-Joe and whatever proto-Marxist is his V.P. is up to that task?

Because many past presidents have been timid or even fearful to jerk China's chain, I for one am happy to see one who is standing up to them. Biden will hide his ass under his desk when it comes to China and his left wing VP, pick one, they all are, will be sucking up to China. Because of the virus Dave, I believe you are going to get your wish and send Trump home. You might be hiding under a desk when that occurs.

If you are intimating Trump’s pressure is unlawful, perhaps you can tell us what law he is breaking. I do not see it.

    Dave,

How nice that you are so naive to think our government doesn't extort big business on a regular and recurring basis. Case in point, the tech shakedown currently underway. There are literally hundreds of examples of exorbitant fines for obscure violations - and even for "intent"!

Whether the payoff is in fines or stock makes no difference to me. And federal stakes in private enterprises isn't exactly unprecedented either now is it.

Trump didn't invent government extortion. You all finally noticed it. Smaller government is better government.

    Apparently you missed this part:

I'm not defending Trump - he's still a big mouthed loud talking doosh from NY. I'm just saying that he isn't inventing bad government. But I'm glad you are beginning to see the bull**** we taxpayers are paying for. We simply have to cut off the money to a government who operates this way - it's the only way we can bring it to heel.
