    Good old Joe

Joe Arpaio, the 88-year-old former sheriff of Maricopa County whose hard-line immigration stance earned him a criminal conviction, is running in a three-way Republican primary for a shot at reclaiming his old job.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think law and order will be a big deal in the coming months and years.

I expect to be manipulated by both sides. And I'm buying 6"pvc and cozmoline.

He's only running to raise campaign money.... Not a chance in hell he could win. He's cost us too much money in the past.

He's not trying very hard either. Just likes to keep his name and face in front of the media.

Sheriff Joe was found in criminal contempt of court by a Federal judge for ignoring the judge’s orders and was pardoned by President Trump in 2016.

Cohen has been a little delayed in writing up the agreement on that one.

Maybe a few here remember when I went down to Arizona to review their supposedly successful Criminal Bootcamps. If you'll recall, they were too expensive because of the $$$$ lost in court cases.

Lesson learned: Calling something a success does not make it so. Sherriff Joe was, and is, a poser.

One of the strengths I found in the Maricopa system lay in the Probation, not Parole, services (Local v State). Another interesting point, we (Utah) build our facilities to handle the cold, they (Arizona) build their facilities to handle the heat. And, Arizona's system does a better job with women then we do.

Too bad for good old Joe

    From this morning's WSJ:

Mr. Arpaio rose to political prominence as metro Phoenix’s sheriff from 1992 through 2016 by creating old-time chain gangs and housing inmates in tents during triple-digit heat.

    By Associated Press

PHOENIX (AP)—Joe Arpaio on Friday was narrowly defeated in his bid to win back the sheriff’s post in metro Phoenix that he held for 24 years before being voted out in 2016 amid voter frustrations over his taxpayer-funded legal bills, his penchant for self-promotion and a defiant streak that led to his now-pardoned criminal conviction.

Mr. Arpaio lost the Republican primary for Maricopa County sheriff to his former top aide, Jerry Sheridan. In the Nov. 3 general election, Sheridan will face Democrat Paul Penzone, who unseated Mr. Arpaio four years ago.

The loss marked Mr. Arpaio’s second failed attempt to return to politics. He ran an unsuccessful primary campaign for U.S. Senate in 2018, not long after President Trump had pardoned his 2017 criminal contempt-of-court conviction for disobeying a judge’s order in a racial profiling case.

As metro Phoenix’s sheriff from 1992 through 2016, Mr. Arpaio rose to political prominence by creating old-time chain gangs and housing inmates in tents during triple-digit heat. But he is most well known for launching immigration crackdowns, some of which contributed significantly to his political downfall.

While his defiant streak played well with voters for many years, Arpaio faced heavy criticism for taking on policies that he knew were controversial and racking up $147 million in taxpayer-funded legal bills. His agency also botched the investigations of more than 400 sex-crimes complaints made to his office.
The really sad part is---he got as many votes as he did
