Cult Favorite Delia’s Tamales Opens In San Antonio
A tamale shop in the Texas valley near the border has a cult following for their fair. The woman behind the store opened her first shop with less than a $100 in her pocket, as the story goes, then built the business on its excellence. Many people in the past have told how they have often driven the hours from here to the valley just to bring home dozens of tamales for friends and the freezer.
The store opened its first place outside the original location here in San Antonio yesterday...the freeway service road was stacked up with cars of people waiting for it to open by 3:00 A.M. that morning. My city is predominately Mexican origin in population and tamales and Menudo (a popular Mexican tripe & hominy soup) are wildly popular. There are many varieties of tamales from pork (the most popular) to sweet ones.
I love good tamales...menudo, not so much...so once the rush subsides a bit, we will surely give this joint a try.
