Boston Marathon Bomber’s Death Sentence Is Thrown Out by Court

    From the NYT:

BOSTON — A federal appeals court on Friday overturned the death sentence of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was convicted of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, and ordered a new penalty-phase trial.

The ruling, from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, concluded that the presiding judge in the 2015 trial, George A. O’Toole Jr., “did not meet the standard” of fairness, because he did not sufficiently scrutinize sitting jurors for bias.

I sometimes think that life in prison could be worse.. look at the Manson Girls.. Leslie Van Houton.. I joined the Navy, she was arrested.. I think of all of the living that I have done since 1968.. she has been in lockup..

I am upset about the time and $$$ that will be spent, but this is part of our justice system (like it or not we need the checks and balances)

Just my opinion, I could be wrong..

I wonder what kind of nitwit you would get on a Boston jury if you limited it to people who had no pre-formed opinion on that creep.

I am ever amazed by the whole episode. Two punks with a pressure cooker hold an entire city hostage for days - and the outcome is "Boston Strong".

They deserve to have him turned back loose there.

The three Judge panel were two Obama appointees and 1 Reagan appointee. The Reagan appointee wrote a fairly strong dissent disagreeing with much of what the other two had ruled in the opinion but did side with the other two on the very narrow issue of the death sentence. Also nothing in the opinion prohibits the defendant from being sentenced to the death penalty again.
OPINION....a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.

I'll go with the assumption that you've separated the slogan from the event. Otherwise I'd have to say that's kind of asinine.
