Back to Portland:
President Donald Trump has said federal officers stationed at the courthouse will remain in Portland through at least Friday. Neither they nor state troopers were seen during Thursday’s demonstration, which drew a crowd surpassing 2,000 people.
The protest was the calmest in weeks and stood in stark contrast to recent demonstrations, during which federal officers often deployed tear gas and issued recurrent warnings in response to fireworks, lights and thrown items.
Troopers at the courthouse earlier in the day were wearing their standard-issue two-tone blue uniforms and broad hats, representing a marked change from the appearance of federal officers — many of whom dressed in camouflage fatigues and tactical gear during protests.
