Check out the binary trigger. Pretty cool stuff.

The Charger had only been introduced a few months before I left the business...I thought it was neat as hell!...I'm glad to see there have been some innovations in the design since then......Ben

Love it. I need one of those, and don’t even know why. I have several Ruger firearms and like them.

The gun reminds me of a full auto .22 I read about 10 years or more ago that the Israeli Army was buying. The distinguishing feature was that even though .22 ammo is not that powerful, the low recoil would allow the shooter to keep the mussel on target with the effect that massive hits in a small space was more effective than dispersed hits from more powerful rounds. At least that was the theory and selling point. The promo said it could drill through a brick wall for instance. The gun had 200-300 round magazines much more compact than those for larger cartridges, as I recall. I don’t remember the cycling rate. It was also cheap to operate. It would necessarily have a very short effective military range, which was an obvious negative factor.

I’ve never heard any more about that weapon. Being a lifelong fan of the .22, I’ve always wondered if it was ever used by the Israelis or others.

I recently saw the movie Casino again. One of the scenes showed Joe Pesci (as mob enforcer Tony Spilotro) killing a victim with a small .22 handgun. In reading about the film, I learned that the .22 was favored by killers for use in headshots. I find that interesting, albeit distasteful.

As you may know, Oscar Goodman was the former mayor of Las Vegas. His 81-year old wife (Carolyn Goodman) is now the mayor. When hubby Oscar was a practicing attorney, he represented the Vegas mobsters in court. And, that's where history was made. For, Oscar was an excellent attorney and kept his mob clients out of jail/prison. But, while he kept Tony Spilotro out, Tony continued to kill people. Depending on the source, Tony killed between 6 and 20 victims. My FBI Grandfather, an agent known as Popeye, was part of a team that tried to catch and prosecute Tony, but Oscar Goodman's efforts got the charges thrown out of court.

We know the film Casino shows Tony Spilatro and his brother, Michael, being beaten to death and buried in a cornfield. That was information the film's director, Martin Scorsese, found from interviewing mob "snitches" while researching the film. The thing Scorsese got wrong was Tony and Michael were actually killed inside a mob house in another city and then their bodies were taken, in the trunk of a car, to the remote burial site. But, Scorsese still nailed it - as evidenced by the two bodies later discovered buried in - you guessed it - a cornfield.

In real time (and life) the downfall of the mob in Las Vegas correlates with the mob failing nationwide. On, they were still around, but their political power and influence significantly waned. When I'm in Las Vegas, my wife and I still visit some of the old mobster haunts to share the memories. That was another time and place. I'm just pleased I'm not part of it. May the victims and their families find peace.

Thanks for the insider info, Hunter...I always learn something new here......Ben

EDIT: The .22 is popular among assassins chiefly because it's so easy to suppress...With sub-sonic ammo they can be made very, very quiet...

I’ve told this story before here, but I’ll repeat —

I once had a client who was the father of a teenage son who got hooked on drugs. He took things in his own hands by finding out who his son’s dealer was and turned his name into the cops. The father was a doctor, and one day, while getting into his car outside a hospital, a man pushed his way in, stuck a silenced .22 pistol to his head, and informed him that he better quit any help for the police. He quickly agreed. For my client, the most chilling factor was the silenced .22 pistol, which clearly meant this assassin was the real thing using the weapon of choice.

Our SWAT team had several silenced weapons. It worked well on the small 22's but not so well on the 10's and 45's.
