    True Story

A relative of mine lived in Florida for about five years. He has been back in Alabama for about 3 years. He got a text from the State of Florida voting department or whatever you call them telling him voting by mail is simple and easy and provided a link in the text on how to do it. For kicks and giggles he punched the link and was signed up to receive a Florida mail in ballot AT HIS ALABAMA address. Now he will throw it away when he gets it but this is the type of crap we get when we go down this road. I hope this is an isolated situation.

Florida is almost as bad as Arizona. We simply can not get voting right.

You sure there wasn't a spot to click that says I not living there any more?

Be careful there. My oldest son wrote the election manual for the Secretary of State last year. Hopefully it will be clarified and easier.

For us , Virginia, there is one more step.. he would not receive a ballot, he would receive an application for a ballot. An application for a ballot requires that you provide a Virginia drivers license/ state ID card number.

I’m sure that you can vote even if you don’t have a drivers license/DMV ID number.. but it isn’t real simple anymore.

And if you are snow birding in Florida or Texas, they will mail the application there.

Sound interesting, Scooter. May you and your family be doing well.

Two things: It's good to see you here and,
tell us at some point about your son's work.

Might want to keep that on the low-down until we see how November goes.

He went back to Law School at 28 and having been in the workforce. He is a public policy guy, and gets the political machine better than most, even if he is very liberal. For the summer he found an internship with the Arizona Secretary of State, who handles Arizona election law. His assignment was to rewrite and clarify the election manual that is given to those running for office. Doing that, he basically rewrote the manual. His first draft was accepted by the appropriate legal people without change and made the guide for elections. He graduated and is taking the bar in October. Nearly all of this years Law Graduates at anything except the very elite schools had their employment offers rescinded, so they are all without jobs. Pretty awful for all of them,

May your son do well, Scooter. It sure sounds like he made a strong start.

I was accepted to Law School but dropped it as I was starting an MBA, which I also never completed. Instead, I started and finished two Master's (Education and Social Work) the same day I started the Police Academy. It's a good thing I was young and fit, no way I'd do THAT again.

I just want him to be able to get a job. He cant get student loans, anymore, there are very few jobs out there, and he is frustrated and discouraged. He tends to borrow trouble, or worry, so it makes it worse. So, in the meantime, my wife and I are supporting him until the bar is over, then he will have to get a job, even if it is at circle K.
