'Like Adding Gasoline': Oregon Officials Blast Trump Response To Portland Protests

Oregon officials are lashing out at President Trump for sending federal agents into Portland amid the ongoing protests against police brutality and racism. Both the governor and Portland's mayor told NPR the administration's actions are nothing more than political theater meant to appeal to Trump's political base in an effort to win reelection.

"As best as I can tell, this is an effort — a last gasp effort — by a failed president with sagging polling data, who's trying to look strong for his base," Mayor Ted Wheeler told NPR's Lulu Garcia-Navarro on Sunday. "He's actually using the federal police function in support of his candidacy."

For more than 50 nights, hundreds have gathered in the city's downtown to protest racism and police brutality, following the killing of George Floyd. Last week Oregon Public Broadcasting reported that federal agents wearing camouflage and tactical gear had been pulling some protesters into unmarked vans.

In response, the state of Oregon said it would sue the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other federal law enforcement agencies. And multiple Democratic members of Congress demanded internal government watchdogs investigate the Trump administration's "use of violent tactics" against peaceful protesters.

This is only a portion of the article---and there are many more like it.

To deny the hypocrisy being demonstrated by trump when comparing the reaction here and the reaction to Hong Kong is unavoidable. Only the cult would deny trump's motive.

I can't help but think that this is more justification to protect the 2nd Amendment.

If they were there doing what was claimed (protecting Federal buildings and statues), there would be far less basis for the local reaction. By all reports, the actions by the Federal "agents", has gone far beyond the stated intentions.

This should alarm everyone of us

Meeting with reporters in the Oval Office yesterday, Trump said that he planned to deploy federal law enforcement agents to Chicago, after already having done so in Portland, Ore., last week. He suggested he might also do so in New York, Philadelphia, Detroit, Baltimore and Oakland. He was vague about the reasons, saying all of the cities were run by “radical left” Democrats.

Have you people lost your minds? The thugs are the mobs dressed in Antifa black launching thousands of felony projectiles and explosives (every frozen water bottle, rock and firework they throw at LOE’s is a felony!) at both law officers and public buildings. This was going on for weeks before the Feds sent in the guards, and surely even your sources have seen these revolutionaries pounding on the walls of the Federal Courthouse with sledgehammers and anything else they can summon. When the guards came out to chase them away in one incident caught on video one creep beat the guard “repeatedly” with his hammer after which the evil guards arrested the perp and were then attacked for making the arrest. Three guards have lost eyesight, when attacked by powerful laser beams. The Feds not only have the right and legal authority to guard their buildings and personnel, but their are laws requiring that they do so.

What is your solution and that of the complaint D’rat pols — for the Feds to withdraw so the Commies can burn down the federal buildings as they have tried to do every damned night! That is insane. What do you need to prove to you the unvarnished malign intentions of these mobs toward the American way of life? They have told you what they demand. Believe what they say. Revolution!
