Las Vegas Facts You Never Knew!

Shamelessly stolen from a boat site I frequent:

    I DID NOT KNOW THIS
    Do Las Vegas
    Churches accept gambling chips?

THIS MAY COME AS A SURPRISE TO THOSE OF YOU NOT LIVING IN LAS VEGAS, BUT THERE ARE MORE CATHOLIC CHURCHES THAN CASINOS.

NOT SURPRISINGLY, SOME WORSHIPERS AT SUNDAY SERVICES WILL GIVE CASINO CHIPS RATHER THAN CASH WHEN THE BASKET IS PASSED.

SINCE THEY GET CHIPS FROM MANY DIFFERENT CASINOS, THE CHURCHES HAVE DEVISED A METHOD TO COLLECT THE OFFERINGS.

THE CHURCHES SEND ALL THEIR COLLECTED CHIPS TO A NEARBY FRANCISCAN MONASTERY FOR SORTING AND THEN THE CHIPS ARE TAKEN TO THE CASINOS OF ORIGIN AND CASHED IN.

THIS IS DONE BY THE CHIP MONKS.

YOU DIDN'T EVEN SEE IT COMING DID YOU?

Some local history: The oldest building in Las Vegas was built by the LDS Church on land downtown and it is still there - well, the foundation of it is. The Mormon's left their holdings in LV and returned to SLC to help fight the Feds. They did not go to war, but did have some famous skirmishes. At Cedar Fort/Fairfield the only part of the Fort still there is the large cemetery, full of dead Fed soldiers serving at the Fort. Coincidentally, the dirt part of the Pony Express Trail goes from Fairfield across the West Deseret.
