With life seemingly in suspense---my window proves otherwise

It is encouraging to see that not all the world is impacted by covid-19. Our deer herd broke up as usual in April when the new fawns began arriving. Since then I see deer everyday but not in the herd. The yearlings that did not breed still hang together in groups of two and occasionally three. The bucks form less tight bonds but tend to hang out together in twos and threes. The mature doe---no where to be found. They became nocturnal. Now, they are beginning to show up with their fawns but still only in family groups. The first was here late yesterday with two fawns who ate grass and nursed while mom ate and swatted insects that were bothering her. They didn't stay long, but this clearly marks the next period of behavior that follows an annual pattern that probably dates back to before my ancestors got here 300 years ago.

The next change will be early fall when the herd comes back together with all the new members providing entertainment for the veterans.
