    Enjoy Your Quasi Holiday

From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.

I would expect the name “Juneteenth” to be receiving the outrage treatment about now from the usual suspects because of its mashing of the English language into an example of an early black brogue instead of the demand for acceptance. It was always a localized Texas unofficial ethnic holiday celebrating a real event that happened two years before it became known to Texas slaves and was virtually unknown widely until this year’s sudden adoption as meaningful generally. People need any reason to celebrate.

My boss said, that I could have it off, as soon as I learn how to spellth it. My wife said, if it wasn't a paid holiday---forget it

I was surprised to see how wide spread it is, I thought it was just a Texas thing.

Excuse my ignorance but I had never heard of it until Trump was being condemned for holding a rally on that day.

Makes two of us. Didn't hear of this growing up in a mostly "white school system".

Which explains why Trump was claiming yesterday that he has made Juneteenth more popular. No, this is not me being snide - they had a snippet of him speaking about it on last night's news.

There seems to be people (peaceful) in the streets from coast to coast "celebrating" Juneteenth. I must have had my head in the mud but I swear I NEVER remember ever reading or seeing anything about it and folks marching on that day.

Yeah, I think Juneteenth hits at a crucial time for Black Americans. They've had some tough court/police struggles lately and seem to have needed a victory. Even in Utah we're seeing bigger celebrations than usual. I'm great with it - and simply want things to stay non-violent.

The police have had a pretty tough time too. I don't know what your definition of victory is but I saw no Victory by anybody through all of these very very sad events that continue.

I saw good and bad police actions. More positive than negative which speaks for the majority of police.

As for protestors the same. Good and bad. The peaceful should have thrown out those that were there to cause trouble, but unfortunately those did the damage and IMHO caused the police to respond as they did.

As for those that looted and burned their next appearance should be before a judge.

Will we ever see major change it's the "I don't Know" from all of this, but I suspect we will all have to listen to cripes/complaints and figure out new and better solutions.
