Chauvin and one other officer suspected George Floyd was suffering from Excited Delirium Syndrome (ExDS), something with which I am unfamiliar, but is a syndrome usually induced by psycho-active drugs and causes the one suffering from its effects to be especially dangerous to themselves and others. Special protocols are specified for law enforcement officers dealing with such situations. A good argument can be made that Chauvin and the other officers followed those prescribed protocols all the way up to and including prone restraint with knee on the neck. Victims of the syndrome have been known to expire regardless of the restraint methods of LEO’s.

Perhaps TriGuy and Mike can intervene here with personal knowledge concerning this type encounter.
