    Home Defense Advice

With all the strange protest and crap going on I've decided to work on my home defense. I assume a shotgun is the best plan but looking for advice from you gun nuts

    Please guide me.

Inside the house: 12 gauge pump gun with full stock, extended magazine, buckshot and as short a barrel as you're comfortable with; if there's time stick a handgun in your belt also...Outside perimeter: Concertina wire, AR-15 and claymore mines......Ben

The only hand gun I have is an old Tarus .38 special... I have a .22 long rifle as well.

I have a buddy that is really into guns. I 'm sure he has a scatter gun he'd be willing to sell. I don't want to spend a lot of money on something that will probably never get used but want quality enough to ensure it woks when needed.

    Brands to stay away from?

"full stock, extended magazine"... clarify please.

I'll have to google Claymores for Dummys

I am with Ben. It is also the best choice for Nurse Paula as well.
If I had time, I'd grab my 45 on the way past.

What Ben said. My 12 gauge Remington 870 was my best friend when on patrol, especially at night.

There are a lot of good 12 gauge shotguns available today. Like Ben said, full stock unless you plan to practice a lot with a pistol grip. The full stock will give you better control and less recoil to your shooting hand. For inside the house get the shortest legal barrel and probably an improved cylinder choke. Buckshot.

I have all that stuff, but the thugs will need to give me enough time to unlock and load. In the interim, I have a handy Ruger 9mm semi ready. Does anyone know offhand the limit on vandals and looters in Texas? I think they are always in season though. The rule to remember is bag ‘em before they ruin the carpets.

Thanks for the advice. Been a lot of social media around the thugs that have been looting and burning business's in Scottsdale branching out to the neighborhoods. Our nieces have put the fear into Nurse Paula so I want to show her a little security.

How long does the back ground check take to clear? I'll probably take her to the gun store/range this weekend and let her shoot a couple shotguns.

The curfew that was put in place rattled her even more.

Most NICS background checks take less than 5 minutes...By federal law, the transaction can't be delayed more than 3 government business days even when further investigation on their part is warranted...I have had instances where my customers were never cleared for transfer due to non-response from ancillary investigations, but received their firearms after the mandatory 3 day period...Others knew there would be a delay from previous experience, and tried to get someone else to pretend to be the transferee...That in itself is a violation of federal law for all involved including the transferor...When I suspected it, I cancelled the transfer since I don't think I would enjoy incarceration as much as others might......Ben

This is what I bought when I went to Alaska in 94 I added a holder on the side for 5 more rounds There I used one 00 buck shot then a slug and just kept going back and forth. Of course it's in a case with a long barrel and wooden stock, under the bed in the fifth wheel. Can't get it out unless I put the slide-out out. Of course in a farm town of 500 people the rioters won't stand a chance.

This is what I have by my bed in addition to some pistols. Didn't pay anywhere near the price on the below link. I added a pistol grip to it. It's a bad ramma jamma.

Claymores are good and a sprinkler system tapped into gasoline is more spectacular. Stone house are best when using the latter application.
