    It is an AMG C63.

Obviously, someone reprogrammed the speed limiter which is supposed to be set at about 155 mph.

Yep, you boys think like I do. When my wife told me the story from the news, the first thing I wanted to know was what was the model of car?

My old Lexus’s would reach 150 mph and my old Jag would get to 140, but they got really “light” at those speeds giving me a very insecure feel, so I only did it to see what they would do. That Merc does not look like it has much downforce to help at significantly more speed.

Almost maxed out the speedo on my F150 last night... Probably about 110. I was not looking down. Fast enough for me in a truck.

After trying a long list of rental cars out over years on the Autobahn, that feeling of "lightness" was common to many of them. It is a very insecure feeling, not entirely different than the feeling of driving on ice. It was unnerving to the point of encouraging me to slow down---by that point, any possible thrill had been replaced by the uneasiness.

My super duties are limited to just south of 100.

our 2000 BMW M5 had speed adjusted suspension and steering. I had it up to 140 out on I5 (once in the early morning) and it felt solid as a rock.

My Jag XJS wasn’t as “floaty” as the Lexus’s at speed, maybe because it was so damned heavy, but the brakes on the Jag were pathetic and a hazard. As I’ve said before, whenever I push a vehicle to high speed, one thing keeps repeating in my head...”tires, tires, tires!” At 191mph, that thought would be screaming bloody murder. The kid, his passengers and others nearby are lucky they caught him. I would like to know what his father said. Did dad let him use a $100k car with near 500hp or did sonny boy swipe it? If he gave it to him, this is the definition of the legal concept of “negligent entrustment.”

I have no idea what my Mercedes is limited to---and I have no desire to find out Driving fast on the Autobahn is one thing---doing it in this country another. Even if you are the only one on the road deer are not all that insightful.

On a side note, there was at times a speed limiting factor on the Autobahn---if I was going somewhere that I was not all that familiar with, I had to slow down to have enough time to read the overhead signs. Above about 125 they come and go pretty quickly

I’ve noticed that those highways here that are smooth at 75mph are not at speeds over 120. Are the autobons designed to be ultra flat and smooth at even those kinds of speeds from your experience, Dave?
