For me, I liked better the sequel, 2010: The Year We Make Contact, Released in 1984, staring Roy Scheider, John Lithgow and Helen Mirren. The original’s ending was too abstruse when the alien overseers and their obelisk took over Dave. The scene in the original with all the flashing kaleidoscope effects also lasted way too long, especially in the roadshow version I first saw. I thought the sequel more coherent at the time, but I’m having trouble remembering all of it.
