    Bad news today

My firm runs about a $350000.00 dollar a day payroll. We have been closed for two weeks by order. I got furloughed today along with many others. I consider myself lucky many got fired both professionals and staff. They are going to continue my health insurance. I am in good shape financially but this is a real bummer 4 years from retirement. This virus is bad, really bad in so many ways. Guess I will catch up on some work around the house or go teach some online courses at the nearby University.

Sorry to hear that, Tom. I wish I could say things will be better soon, but we both know better.

Furlough means that you will be back on the payroll when this crap is over with I HOPE.

Yeah me too being that I am a bankruptcy lawyer by trade I can't help but think bankruptcies are going to be filed in huge volumes after this is over.

That sucks... Welcome to my world. I've been out of work for a while and was almost to the point of lowering my standards just to get a pay check coming in. That's out the window now.

It's a good thing we have been great savers for a long time.

120 lawyers, 300 plus staff and I should have added that includes overhead.

Sorry to hear bad news, Tom...But the mind boggles at the thought of 120 lawyers running amok with nothing to do......Ben

If nothing prevents you from freelancing there are probably a lot of folks wanting to make or change a will right now. I know I do and my lawyer is not responding. I don't mean to take advantage of the situation, but people need the service. It seems like we all put things like this off until it is too late.

Simple wills and estate planning are different animals.

All 3 of my lawyer associates are thriving. They represent a disproportionately large part of my connection to the outside world. Disturbing really.

Did I mention I got my summons for jury service to US District Court? On call all May. I can have Memorial Day off if need be. The law biz seems to be doing fine here, however I expect that is grinding to a halt as we speak.

Oh, and my sympathies to everyone for their losses from this "thing". Its more than a virus.

Sorry to hear.. I was laid off in 2002 when the dot com bubble burst.. do not believe there is no age discrimination, there is! And when the job market loosens up, the 35/40yo with kids and no insurance will undercut wages.

I ended up managing a bus stop/no parking sign contract for half my previous salary.. greatest job that I ever had.

Good luck .. (I need an updated will and estate plan, are you licensed in Virginia?)

    Ageism is real. Trust me.
