I thought the latest greatest sniper rifle is a switch-barrel bolt action that allows for caliber changes in the field? I recall it being ridiculously expensive. I will see if I can find it.

    Found it. Barrett MRAD

Those two article sorta talk about the same thing but I come away still confused We do learn that if we could buy an MRAD, it would cost $16,000. Might be an upcharge for orders less than $10 mil?

I am curious if the rifle above contains anything similar to the electronic targeting system described in the thread below, which does the math for the shooter and won’t release the shot until the sight is precisely on target. The spotter need only feed in certain parameters such as sea level elevation, temperature, wind direction/speed and bingo anyone becomes an expert shot. Some even calculate for moving targets. Not only a sniper’s dream, but the same for assassins as well. The OP has language about an auxiliary electronic part, but it is not described other than distinguishing heat signatures.

My take away is that the military has several different sniper rifles. I will get a full report next time I see my friendly neighborhood SEAL. I know they had a barrett 50 and I believe a 300 win mag in the team previously.

Right now you can buy riflescopes that communicate with a smartphone app and will adjust the aimpoint based on physical conditions. Its a huge ethical argument in the hunting community. Adapting military tech to kill a deer seems over the top for me.
