I broke down and purchased some nice hiking boots

My Vasque boots served me well for 6 years and multiple resoles but the upper and midsoles were at the point of no repair. Vasque no longer makes the model I have so I tried on their new offerings....

They changed the last, none of their wide boots were wide enough. I wear a 13EE.

I tried on boots from about a dozen MFG before I found a pair that gave me the "these are going home with me" feeling. Talk about sticker shock, but I guess perfect fit and comfort is worth it.

ASOLO Fugitive GTX, only $275 plus tax
    fully waterproof and GoreTex lined

Pricy, but you can’t be happy unless your feet are.
I live by the adage that “I will pay and do whatever it takes to serve my feet and eyes, and the stuff in between will take care of itself.”

Incidentally, I have the opposite problem, really narrow feet, and it is incredibly difficult to find boots for narrow feet. Virtually no manufacturer makes boots narrower than C width - most are D’s. Vasques are about the only ones with more narrow lasts in which thick socks and inserts can make them suffice for my feet. Lucchese used to make narrow sizes, but I don’t wear cowboy boots anymore.

Nice looking boots Tri. I'm like Joe I need narrower 12C. My arches are also super high so I have to get arch supports to put on top of the arch supports that a good pair of shoes already has. And like both of you I don't care what they cost if my feet like them. I have neuropathy so bad that nothing does it all but I'll spend to get close.

I feel your pain, Joe, literally...We both have diabetes and narrow feet, and good bootmakers don't care...I keep resoling and reheeling the same three pair of Luccheses I've owned for decades because they're the closest things to a good fit that I've found...

Now I find my old Reeboks are in bad need of replacement due to double duty as can crushers, so I have to make the trip to Academy soon for a trying-out session...I suppose we can both be thankful that neither of us has my Dad's feet, 14AAAA with 6A heels...He spent a lot of time browsing shoe stores in his travels......Ben

You are still lucky at that size Eric. My feet are 10.5 5E---sort of!

I have a combined bunion on my big toe and the toe next to it is a hammertoe that rides on top of the big toe

My last two pairs of shoes cost me over $1,000---which includes $450 for custom insoles. The shoes have to be stretched to allow for room on the side for the bunion and then on top to allow for the hammertoe. As Joe has already mentioned----while I don't like spending that much money for shoes---I can be very grumpy without shoes that fit my deformities

Joe and Ben----you might want to look for a shoe maker/store in your area that specializes in "problem feet". I go to a store on Long Island that does just that.

Opposite problem.. big fat feet.. whole family has em.. mom used to say that her kids would be great stomping grapes..

Years ago I was on the Cabalas website and they had scratch and dent size 14 EEE boots for $9.00.. yes nine.. so I bought a pair of each of the three styles.. the Cowboys boots were like boards nailed to my feet and were donated to charity.. the work boots were worn for years to work and still are lawn mowing boots.. the hiking boots are the most comfortable boots I own, problem os that they are 10in high and all eyelets, a bear to put on.. but still worn in winter

40 years of flops destroyed my feet (started in high school in Hawaii) .. have moved to crocks.. crocks are the most comfortable shoes in mass production.. wear them all the time.. (no shocks allowed)..

    BTW.. nice boots Eric...

I have a pair of Asolos from 15 years ago when I used to sheep hunt. Another million miles and they might be broken in. Stiff and durable. I wouldn't be surprised if a pair lasted a weekend warrior his entire life.

Wore the boots for 12 hours and walked ten miles yesterday. Pure comfort.

Always great to have a pair of shoes fit and feel comfortable.

So, whats the best low top trail runner? Looking for something stouter than a tennie but not a boot. Don't worry, I won't go out in public.

The thing I noticed about the OP's text was about "resoles" - something I have not seen occur in years. Maybe it's just my thin slice of America, but all the places that resoled shoes/boots I knew of are gone.

Don't know. I haven't found one that fits my feet.

My “trail running running” days are over, but for walking shoes New Balance brand and Keen’s work well for me.

Not a problem getting soles and heels here.

You don't throw away boots that cost several hundred dollars or more. You get them fixed. New soles and heels go for something between $100 - $200.
