Guess the desert is still home to all animals.

A pair of these showed up the other night. Javelina Seems they wondered around the front yard for a hour or so. First time since we moved here in 2000 that they have made an appearance.

Well, I learned something new on this one. For, I always thought Javelinas were a type of pig. I have never seen one while in the desert.

I get them around mi casa a lot. They love the prickly pear cactus that grow in the wash across the street.

This guy has been hanging around a bit lately as well:

Yeah they do tend to bring the others out. Coyotes, and mountain lions tend to hunt them.

Some years ago I had a golf outing at a resort near Scottsdale, The Boulders, and during the rounds there were many Javelinas wandering around the course, some had to be shooed away so we could play.

Super nice, but things in the rough get mighty pointy.

...as opposed to playing from the rough around San Antonio.

Not even close to the same. Besides all the thorny things in the desert wanting to stick you, after about 20 feet of traditional rough at The Boulders your golf ball would most often be amongst a sea of rocks about the same size and shape. Best to just forget about even looking. Fortunately, I never hit into the rough.

The course I played had some pretty nasty limestone and cacti literally 1 foot off the fairway. It got worse the farther into the mesquites you went. Don't remember the name of it but its the one at the JW Marriott where they play that seniors event. If you play like me, you want rental clubs

I used to hunt deer with my bow where the boulders is before it was there. I lived just outside of Cave Creek.
