One thing I found interesting is the landfill was "buying" these. Shouldn't that be the other way around??????

That looks like a mistake, Fred. I found it curious too, so I went looking.

The 1,000 blades will bring in about $675,000 for the landfill, helping keep trash costs low for local residents.

    It says "burying". Old guys

A better question is why they have a ridiculously short lifespan of 20 years. This ain't commercial aviation. I smell our goobermint at work here. Spark plugs last 20 years these days.

Blade tip speed on the big units can exceed 250mph. Birds don’t stand a chance.

Wow----is that a concern for the environment sneaking in?

I like birds; windmills not so much.

I’ve read the theory that very few, if any, windmills ever produce during their usable life as much energy as it takes to produce their raw materials, manufacture & assemble, place, maintain and disassemble & remove them, and that the only reason any are made is to rep the benefits of government subsidies and tax breaks. I do not know how much of that is correct, but like much of the financial basis of “renewables,” I would like to see a proper breakdown, which I have been unable to find.
