Iran Shoots Down Passenger Airliner

While it has been touched on in a different thread, I believe this tragedy deserves its own thread.

Shortly after the Iranian missiles were launched at U.S. bases in Iraq, a Ukrainian airliner went down shortly after leaving Tehran. At the time, I conjectured that Iran had shot it down thinking it was an incoming American military plane in response to their missiles. Whether or not that was the case, it now seems that Iran did indeed shoot down the airliner, perhaps by mistake. Whatever happened is a true tragedy for all of those involved.

Most all intelligence sources are coming together and stating that yes indeed Iran shot it down accidentally. I'm glad they had that information because Boeing sure didn't need another bad deal. Now I guess it remains to be seen how hard is going to be to get Iran to compensate the victims.

Here's one more source...They are seemingly reversing their first stance that neither the US government nor Boeing will be allowed to participate in the investigation...

The head of the Iranian Investigating Committee of the Ukraine plane crash, Hassan Rezaeifar, said it has invited the United States “as the manufacturer of Boeing to be present” while the committee investigates the crash, according to the country's semi-official Fars News Agency.

If Iran wants to be counted among major nations, this would be a good opportunity to declare that intention......Ben
