Questions for those who have followed the Iraq thing more closely than me

    1. I have read that we knew that Iraq was preparing to launch missiles long before they pushed the buttons but we took no action---why?.
    2. We know how many missiles (or rockets) were launched and how many actually made their target--which was nothing to brag about. That indicates an ongoing real time view of the "enemy", but no apparent response was mounted--why?
    3. We apparently did not try to intercept any of the incoming--why?

Now---please I know that there are people here that have followed the details of this far more closely than I have---there is NOTHING political in my questions---so please---this is not the Political Forum. Allow the local "Bens et al" to answer.

    Thank you.

    Guessing:

To take measures while the missiles were on ground before launch would necessitate our missiles into Iran.
We have no Patriot Missile batteries in Iraq to intercept ballistic missiles.
Is it possible we were told beforehand that missiles were face-saving shots not meant to kill and we let them blow off steam and play to their masses in a theater of the absurd?

Btw, it is impossible to address these incidents without delving into politics. “Politics” is any interaction between three people or more.

This whole process has turned into politics so let Nancy Poltie make the decision.

I can't speak for Al, but I found this:
Automated Centurion Gatling cannons opened a storm of fire to intercept the rockets, as you can see in the video below, appearing to blast at least some of them out of the sky.
So it seems not all got through due to our existing defenses...Also this:
US forces reportedly could not intercept the inbound missiles because defense systems, such as the US Army's Patriot missile defense system, were deployed to other regions in the Middle East at the time. Alarm systems are also used to alert personnel on base to incoming fire and instruct them to take cover.
Those two quotes were from a quick search for intel, and you may assign your own degree of credibility from your trust level in the sources...I'm sure Al will be along with better info......Ben

Thanks Ben---both of those sources are on my "approved list".

I found this of particular interest:

"Iran's attacks tonight appeared designed for maximum domestic effect with minimum escalatory risk," Henry Rome, an analyst for the political consulting firm Eurasia Group, said in a statement to Business Insider.
I have to wonder if similar sentiments were expressed the other night in the White House to encourage trump to stand down.

Doing nothing but placing our troops in a safe place was a chess move to calm the situation and as Joe said, allow them to save face with their people.

Did we every find out who lobbed the 2 shots into the "Green Zone" (whatever that is)? Copy Cats?

Frankly I'm not sure there are enough clear thinkers in either of those camps to come up with that plan intentionally...I think it just worked out that way......Ben

Thanks just checking. I might respond but I don't know much about what happened either.
