At low tide you can drive out for a mile at some points on the hard packed sand. Just watch out for the Baja Bug grabbing quick sand.....

They are working on it. There are much higher tides than 22'. The Bay of Fundy is the highest, often listed at or close to 50'. I believe that is unusual, the mean tide is closer to 40'.
Not too far behind is Anchorage and the Turn Again Arm and Inchon Korea.
Regarding the Alps, I think the San Bernardino Pass between Zurich and Italy is the most beautiful. I once drove that on a Sunday morning after a Saturday night that I would rather forgetBetter than driving that is to take the train, simply because you can spend all your time with your mouth open! On one of my train crossings I had my oldest daughter with me, we had been in Zurich for a couple of days and were on the way to Milan. I was excited for her to see this most beautiful route---and could not keep her awake---I still needle her about that.
The other pass I have used is the Brenner Pass which is further east and ends in Innsbruck Austria. It is a much lower pass and while beautiful in it's own right it pails to its western neighbor.
