We've had a handful of criminals brag themselves into trouble here as well. And, courts have ruled it's legit to use the info and pics the yahoos have posted.

Several years ago we had a rash of fires in a particular subdivision. Everything from mailboxes to A/C condenser units to park playground structures. It turns out the culprits were teenagers videoing themselves setting the fires. They got caught when they cut down some trees on a green way walking path and hid the camera to capture the event when someone came along. That someone found the camera and turned it in. Teenagers identified, no more fires!

Getting away with a crime can be hard..
I worked for DOT for five years.. you would not imagine what one finds on the side of the road.. my coworker presented a hypothetical situation..
You find $1M on the side of the road.. if the owners (bad guys) find out that you even saw it, you are dead.. if you tell the police, the bad guys will find out and you are dead.. what do you do?
Not easy.. if you keep it, you can’t tell anyone (or you are dead).. point is that crime isn’t always easy..

I prosecuted a case, when I was an ADA straight out of law school that I always thought was a hoot. The perp decided to chop a hole in the roof of the local DPS (Department Of Public Safety) Office, which housed the official forms for drivers licenses and such. He and his crew wanted the form to make and sell fraudulent I.Ds. Back before they were easily printed. After chopping the hole in the roof, he flipped inside, but in the process his wallet & his own I.D. dropped out of his pocket onto the floor.
There were others. Criminals, as a rule, are pretty stupid.
