Interested to hear what everybody's having. Around here just basic standard Thanksgiving fare. 22 lb Butterball turkey, traditional dressing, green beans, creamed corn ,potato salad ,regular salad ,stuffed eggs, collards, yeast rolls and banana pudding for dessert.

For the past 51 years the Bride and I have done the traditional thing. But, with only the two of us, it was just to much post Thanksgiving leftovers so this year we decided to change the menu .

Sounds good. We typically spend Thanksgiving in Las Vegas too. But, we're sticking closer to home this year.

    Enjoy and be safe.

Actually changed our plans. Not in the mood to drive 5 hours in crappy weather so we moved our trip to after the Rodeo leaves town in a few weeks.

The menu this year was something of a moving target. We decided to forego the traditional turkey and opted for "Southern" favorites.

The main course was seafood gumbo which I started yesterday with everything except the seafood which was added at the last minute. The roux alone took almost 2 hours! I didn't want to burn it, been there and started over. Not this time!
Collard greens with onions and bacon for seasoning since I didn't have any ham hocks.
Macaroni and cheese from scratch with diced jalapenos.
Dressing using StoveTop turkey for a base with added onions, celery and bell peppers. Then baked.
    Garlic French bread.
Various pies of which only one, apple, got sliced.

I forgot to cook the rice for the gumbo, so dinner was delayed a bit. After that, I forgot to get out the potato salad, so it is untouched. If you are wondering, the potato salad was for the gumbo in place of rice for those who wanted it. You put a little potato salad on your spoon and then dip it in gumbo. It doesn't sound like something you'd want to do, but it is gooood! It's a Cajun thing........

I can't remember better gumbo ever!...And the dressing was great!...Unfortunately I had to take a pass on the pies, and it's a good thing because you don't want to hear what my blood glucose number was when I got home......

But I really appreciate the invite Mike, I enjoyed the meal as well as the company...I even managed a pleasant conversation with a delightful young lady...And I didn't even stutter much in her presence either...Whether she remembered me five minutes later is another question......Ben

You are always welcome in my home, Ben.

Thank you for your food review.

You missed a bag of precious metals. Apparently there was another one started that I didn't know about.

Thank you for coming to our little get together.
